AAR Hospital , Nairobi
AAR Hospital, located along Kiambu Road in Nairobi, is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that sets a precedent for sustainable hospital design in the region. UGC was engaged from the very early design stage to support the project team in integrating sustainability principles and optimising the building’s environmental performance.
Using detailed building simulation modelling, UGC worked closely with the architects and engineers to analyse and improve solar control, shading design, natural ventilation, and daylighting strategies. These insights informed critical design decisions that improved both energy efficiency and patient comfort—key priorities in a healthcare environment.
In 2023, the project achieved EDGE certification, becoming the first hospital in Kenya and Africa to do so. It stands as a benchmark for high-performance, climate-responsive healthcare design on the continent.
