AMREF International University, Nairobi
AMREF International University, located within the Northlands development in Nairobi, is a flagship educational campus focused on health sciences and public health. Phase One of the project includes eight new buildings, encompassing academic spaces, laboratories, libraries, a student centre, student accommodation, and maintenance facilities. UGC was engaged from the early design stages to support the project team in achieving EDGE certification. Through performance modelling and close collaboration with the architects and engineers, UGC helped optimise the campus for energy, water, and materials efficiency. The project successfully achieved EDGE Preliminary Design Certification and is on track for final certification upon completion in 2025—making it the first tertiary education institution in Kenya to be EDGE certified.
