Crystal USG, Dakar
Crystal USG is a residential development located in Les Almadies, Dakar, Senegal, consisting of eight high-end apartment units averaging 254 m² each. The project was developed by Sertem Groupe and represents a strong commitment to sustainable urban housing in West Africa. UGC’s Amrish Shah was appointed as the official EDGE Auditor, completing the technical assessment and audit in line with GBCI standards. The project integrates modern systems such as VRV cooling, energy-saving lighting, and low-flow water fixtures, significantly improving its environmental performance. In 2021, it achieved EDGE Advanced Preliminary Certification, setting a precedent for green residential design in Senegal.
Project Sustainability Features
- 45% energy savings, with variable refrigerant volume (VRV) cooling, ceiling fans, and energy-efficient LED lighting (internal and external)
- 32% water savings, achieved with low-flow showerheads, faucets, and dual-flush toilets
- 33% reduction in embodied carbon in materials, including reinforced concrete slabs and medium-weight hollow concrete blocks
- Operational CO₂ savings: 4.88 tCO₂/unit/year
- Demonstrates leadership in sustainable housing within a West African context
