Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Nairobi

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nairobi undertook a full carbon audit of its operations as part of its wider sustainability and climate responsibility agenda. The audit covered Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions across the embassy’s office activities, including energy consumption, staff commuting, official travel, procurement, and waste. The resulting emissions profile was used to develop a practical drawdown strategy aimed at reducing the embassy’s operational carbon footprint in alignment with the Netherlands’ international climate objectives. The initiative contributes to broader capacity-building efforts in the region by setting a precedent for how diplomatic missions can lead by example in environmental stewardship.
