Integrated Justice Court and District Magistrate Courts, Zanzibar

The Integrated Justice Court and District Magistrate Courts in Zanzibar comprise a network of six new courthouse facilities being developed across different locations on the islands. UGC has been engaged by the Judiciary of Zanzibar from the early concept design stage to advise on sustainability integration and guide the project towards achieving EDGE Advanced certification.

Working closely with the architects and engineering team, UGC has been conducting modelling to assess various building typologies and identify strategies to maximise energy efficiency, water conservation and reduce embodied carbon in materials. Each site presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate how thoughtful, climate-responsive design can deliver long-term operational savings and resilience in public sector infrastructure.

These projects mark a significant step forward for sustainable institutional development in the region and reflect Zanzibar’s growing commitment to environmentally responsible public buildings.
