The Pod, Nairobi
The Pod is a proposed commercial office development located in Nairobi, comprising two interconnected towers of six floors each. The project was conceptualised as a high-performance workplace environment with a strong emphasis on sustainability and user wellbeing. UGC was engaged from the early design stage to lead the sustainability advisory and LEED certification process. Extensive building simulation modelling was undertaken to help the design team understand and optimise the building’s energy, daylighting, ventilation, and material performance. UGC worked closely with the architects and engineers to explore innovative design strategies tailored to Nairobi’s climate, with a focus on low operational costs and long-term resilience. Although the project was later placed on hold, it remains a standout example of forward-thinking sustainable design in Kenya’s commercial real estate sector.
