UNICEF Somalia Centre, Garowe

The UNICEF Somalia Headquarters in Garowe is a landmark project—the first EDGE preliminary certified development in Somalia. UGC was engaged from the early design stage to lead the sustainability strategy and EDGE certification process for the new UN compound.

Working closely with the project’s architects and engineers, UGC provided advisory and simulation modelling to optimise energy use, water conservation, and material efficiency. In 2025, the project achieved EDGE Preliminary Design Certification, with final post-construction certification targeted for 2026.

This project represents a key step forward in sustainable institutional development in the Horn of Africa, aligning with UNICEF’s global climate and operational resilience goals.
