United Nations Office – Blocks A–J Replacement, Nairobi

The UNON Blocks A–J project involves the phased demolition of aging semi-prefabricated office buildings (originally constructed in the 1970s) and their replacement with modern, purpose-built office facilities. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was completed to support project planning, manage environmental and social risks, and align construction activities with Kenya’s Environmental Management and Coordination Act and international best practice. The assessment addressed impacts related to site clearance, air quality, noise, waste management, heritage vegetation, groundwater and stormwater management, traffic, and worker and community health and safety. Comprehensive mitigation and management plans were developed to minimise disruption, protect site ecology, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and host-community expectations.
