URBIS 1B is an innovative industrial development located in Athi River, Machakos County, Kenya. Developed by Modular Real Estate EPZ Ltd, the project is a bold example of circular construction, using upcycled end-of-life shipping containers to create a functional, efficient, and rapidly deployable warehouse facility. UGC was engaged from the early stages to guide the project through EDGE certification, helping the team understand how to optimise the building’s performance across energy, water, and materials. Through close collaboration with the designers and technical team, UGC ensured that the unique building approach met international sustainability standards. The project successfully achieved EDGE Certification in April 2024.
